for the benefit of developing countries. It strengthens the research

and represents a comprehensive approach to promoting biotechnology

- TWAS
- The Academy of Sciences for the Developing World (TWAS) represents the best of
science in the developing world. Its principal aim is to promote
scientific capacity and excellence for sustainable development in the
South.
- ICS-UNIDO
- ICS aims to advance the industrial competitiveness in
developing and transition-economy countries through transfer of technology and know-how that encourages sustainable development. Goals are pursued through promotion of technological innovation relevant to industry, build-up of private/public-sector partnerships, strengthening of technological capacity and fostering of international cooperation. All member countries of the United Nations are their beneficiaries. End beneficiaries are small and medium-sized enterprises, national and regional institutions engaged in R&D, policy-makers, managers and stakeholders.
- AREA
- AREA is the operator of reference in Italy for
technology transfer. It is a prestigious multi-sector Science and
Technology Park that carries out research, development and innovation
activities aimed at achieving results of excellence. The AREA Science Park is a place where top-level training, research and business philosophy blend and become a fundamental resource for the economic and employment growth of the territory. The
quality of the services offered, the contacts with academic and research institutions, the high level of competence of the human resources, together with the beautiful location of the Park– in the far eastern part of Friuli Venezia Giulia – have generated an exclusive environment, namely the AREA Science Park, with flexible solutions to
accommodate businesses, structures, instruments and services to support
the development of knowledge and technology led activities.
- Trieste University
- The University of Trieste, with its wide range of courses and opportunities of integration into working life within the prestigious international scientific institutions of the city, is one of the main reference points for young – and often foreign – people who chose to study in the North-East of Italy.
Nowadays humanities and the strong commercial vocation of Trieste melt with a culture of innovation of which the university – with its high scientific works, several research contracts with enterprises and institutions, the registration of its patents and the creation of many spin-offs – is a fundamental element.

- The Burlo Garofolo was established in 1856 to ensure medical care to poor children. In 1968 the Institute was designated by the Ministry of Health as IRCCS. - Central European Initiative
- The CEI was established in 1989 as an intergovernmental forum for political, economic and cultural co-operation among its Member States. Its main aim was to help transition countries in Central Europe come closer to the EU. In the second half of 1990's, the extension of its membership to South-eastern and Eastern Europe refocused its priorities on countries in special need.
- International Centre for Mechanical Sciences
- CISM, International Centre For Mechanical Sciences, is a non-profit organization, founded in 1968 to favour the exchange and application of the most advanced knowledge in the mechanical sciences, in interdisciplinary fields like robotics, biomechanics, environmental engineering and in other fields (such as mathematics, information and system theory, operations research, computer science, artificial intelligence).

- The National Institute of Nuclear Physics (INFN) is an organization dedicated to the study of the fundamental constituents of matter, and conducts theoretical and experimental research in the fields of subnuclear, nuclear, and astroparticle physics.

- Scuola Internazionale di Studi Avanzati
- Postgraduate training and leading-edge research in various areas of Physics, Mathematics, and Neurosciences are the objectives of SISSA, the International School for Advanced Studies of Trieste. SISSA was the first Italian university to offer the PhD degree, and has continued to do so with notable success. Since its founding in 1978, SISSA has prepared more than 500 young people for careers in research and teaching: today SISSA represents one of the leading scientific institutions in Italy and a noted center on the international stage.

- The National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics OGS is a public research institute. Named Osservatorio Geofisico Sperimentale until 1989, its roots go back to the second half of 18th century.
Its mission is to promote, co-ordinate and perform, also in collaboration with other national, international, and European institutions, studies and research on the Earth and its resources.
